Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon'
Autumn Moon Full Moon Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon' is a spectacular tree when given the proper setting in the garden. In most gardens, it is recommended to give protection from the hot afternoon sun for best growth. Some morning sun will peak the colors. 'Autumn Moon' was a chance seedling that was selected and introduced by JD Vertrees, who wrote the original book on Japanese maples. The spring color is a bright salmon pink that malts across the bright green full moon leaves. 'Autumn Moon' may reach 6-8 ft in height and width in 10 years. Fall color on 'Autumn Moon' turns oranges to red.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

autumn moon is a gorgeous tree

Well, I bought an autumn moon from MrMaple because I already own one and LOVE it. It's now June here and I'll take a picture of my established tree for you all, but it's orange and yellow with red new growth all blended in one amazing tree. I live in the North Cascades of Washington state and everything is so green, so adding this amount of color in my landscape is essential to break up the green insanity. My baby tree arrived kinda small,(comparatively speaking to some other's) but it is somewhat of a weeping tree so to be expected....and I'm just happy to have another of what is one of my favorite varieties of maples, the autumn moon.

Gorgeous spring colors!

A photo doesn’t even capture how beautiful this maple is, especially in spring, as the leaves turn orange-yellow. It’s the maple everyone always notices and comments on first. Highly recommend.

A show of form and color

This cultivar was made to be container grown- at least for a few years. Beautiful salmon-colored blushing on golden/mango leaves. Everything about this tree leafing out is interesting. The leaves when first pushing out of the buds hang there like brightly-colored sleeping bats. Then they shed the remainder of their husks and slowly tilt skyward as they open up to receive more sun- changing shades of orange, yellow and red as it goes. A collector’s must have, in my opinion. And it’s small, so you can move it where you need in order to get best results. PM shade and minimal wind makes this thing positively glow in spring and fall.
