'Davis’ is a prolific fruiting selection of American pawpaw with a great sweet taste. Mid spring flowers develop into fruit for the fall. ‘Davis’ is one of the earliest ripening pawpaws, with fruit ripening between the end of September and the first week of October. ‘Davis’ was found in the wild and selected by Corwin Davis for its abundance of tasty fruit. The fruit is oblong and yellow-green to brown in color. The fruit is highly desired by fruit aficionados, native plant enthusiasts and homesteaders. Fall color on pawpaw trees is a bright golden yellow adding some garden interest to this edible ornamental. ‘Davis’ may reach 15 ft in height and width in 10 years. For best pollination and a large crop of fruit, it is recommended to plant multiple types of cultivars or seedlings in an area.

The photo is a seedling from ‘Davis’, while we are offering the grafted ‘Davis’ selection. The grafted selection will consistently display the heavy fruiting characteristic that ‘Davis’ was chosen for.  We are using this photo to show the typical form of the the pawpaw tree and it’s fall color.
