Edgeworthia chrysantha 'Gold Rush' is a smaller Chinese paperbush selection that can reach 5 ft in height and width in 10 years. 'Gold Rush' has long soft leaves that look almost rhododendron-like, except this shade plant is deciduous with leaves that turn yellow in the fall before they drop foliage. In the late winter around February to March, 'Gold Rush' has extremely fragrant yellow and white blooms that provide an exceptional winter interest in sight and smell. 'Gold Rush' fits in many shade gardens. It is important, especially in the south, to give Edgeworthia chrysantha 'Gold Rush' protection from the hot afternoon sun.
