Picea abies 'Pusch'
Rare Dwarf Norway Spruce
Zones 3-8
'Pusch’ is a dwarf slow growing Norway spruce that develops beautiful magenta cones in the early spring. This contrasts well against the green foliage and puts on a great spring display. These cones mature to a brown color later in the season. ‘Pusch’ was found as a dwarf witches broom mutation on the cultivar ‘Acrocona’ by Andreas Pusch of Germany. In 10 years ‘Pusch’ may reach 2-3 ft in height by 3-4 ft in width with an overall globose habit. This makes ‘Pusch’ a colorful spring interest evergreen to use in small spaces. In hotter climates give ‘Pusch’ protection from the hot afternoon sun. ‘Pusch’ is an excellent dwarf magenta coned spruce for your garden. ‘Pusch’ received the Conifer of the Year honors in 2008 by the American Conifer Society.
