 Japanese black pines are some of my favorite conifers. They are more shade tolerant and heat tolerant than many trees. I have also been told they are extremely salt tolerant which is good for ocean climates and gardens. 'Green Elf' is a unique compact form of Japanese black pine that was found by Joe Grassl of Sandy, Oregon. It may reach 2 ft in height by 3 ft in width in 10 years, creating a nice compact bun shape. This makes this small Japanese black pine extremely useful to add that evergreen interest in small spaces. Add a 'Green Elf' in your garden today!
