Syringa ‘Miss Kim’ is a selection of Manchurian lilac with lavender-purple blooms and a tight compact upright habit. The bloom time is later than many other lilacs, making its blooms more resistant to late frost damage. ‘Miss Kim’ may reach 6-8 ft in height by 4-5 ft in width in 10 years. ‘Miss Kim’ was named by Elwyn Meader, an army horticulturalist while she was stationed in Korea.  Kim is said to have been the name of Meader’s helper who was Korean. Syringa ‘Miss Kim’ has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
