'Caitlin' is selection of Ulmus parviflora that was made by John Caitlin in 1953. It was diminuative in size, compact, and had small glossy leaves. Jim Barrett named this selection 'Caitlin' to destinguish it from typical Chinese elms as the Caitlin Elm began to grow in popularity. In warmer climates, this elm may display more evergreen tendencies. 'Caitlin' is especially popular for bonsai. In 10 years, 'Caitlin' may reach 4-5 ft in height and width.
