Rhododendron viscosum var. serrulatum
Deciduous Native Hammocksweet Azalea
White to Light Pink Native Piedmont Azalea
Zones 6-9
Rhododendron viscosum var. serrulatum is one of the best native azaleas. The blooms, which can bloom as late as August or September, add a new dimension when enjoying the garden. I'm talking about fragrance. The sweet fragrance will carry on these white to light white pink blooming azaleas. This is one plant that blooms enthusiastically. Rhododendron serrulatum, often referred to as a Hammocksweet azalea adapts fairly easily to the garden setting. Rhododendron serrulatum is vigorous, getting established fairly easily in the landscape. Make sure to give Rhododendron serrulatum plenty of moisture so it can get acclimated to your garden. Rhododendron serrulatum can get 10-12 ft in height in its native range but will typically reach 6-8 ft in height in 10 years.
