'Rugose' is a unique Japanese maple that has extraordinary thick leathery leaves, thicker stems, and habit that makes many believe this Japanese maple has more chromosomes than your typical Acer palmatum. 'Rugose' is a selection that was found and introduced by the late great J.D. Vertrees, author of Japanese Maples.  This selection has blue-green foliage in the spring, turning to orange and red in the fall. 'Rugose' is slower growing reach 6 ft in height in 10 years with a nice upright form. Add this unique beauty to your garden!
