'Utsu semi' leafs out in the early spring as a bright yellow-green large leaf Acer amoenum with purple red tips. The leaf on 'Utsu semi matures to a dark rich green before turning to yellow and orange in the fall. 'Utsu semi' may reach 10-12 ft in height and width in 20 years. The name 'Utsu semi' means "grasshopper skin".

The tree arrived very quickly after I ordered it, but it had to wait patiently on the porch until my husband got in the mood to dig a hole! Which took five minutes, so I don't know why he kept putting it off. Now it's planted, and it looks at home! The hole was deep and wide and I filled it with nutritious potting soil; I hope that was the right thing to do! Watered it, and now awaiting the tree's adjustment to its new circumstances. Perhaps it will acquire some fall color before the winter. (The picture doesn't show the long branch that is heading straight up about four feet, and that was folded over in the box it came in. What a resilient sapling! NOTE: our front yard is "natural," with flowers and herbs and overgrown grass. We trim just enough to NOT get cited by the City of Huntsville.
