Acer truncatum 'Skinny Dragon' leafs out with bright salmon red new growth maturing out to a rich green. 'Skinny Dragon' has one of the most elegant leaves of any of the shantung maples. It is heavily dissected giving even more ornamental appeal.
It is estimated to reach 20-25 ft in 10-15 years, 'Skinny Dragon' can grow 2-3 ft a year in ideal growing conditions. As 'Skinny Dragon' matures it gets an attractive fissured and heavily ridged bark creating added winter interest.
'Skinny Dragon' is extremely heat tolerant, drought tolerant, and wind resistant making it nearly indestructible and an ideal shade tree for the South. It will not only grow in these horrible conditions, but it will thrive while providing amazing fall color. Southern exposure in the deep south? No problem. In autumn, this dragon will light up your yard with bright yellows and oranges.
