Ulmus pumila ‘Pendula’ is a weeping contorted elm that is extremely rare in cultivation. It was brought to the United States in 1908 by Frank Meyer from the Peking Botanical Garden. In China, this selection was known as the “Dragon’s Claw Elm”. ‘Pendula’ makes a nice weeping umbrella reaching 4-5 ft in height by 6-7 ft in width in 10 years. Ulmus pumila ‘Pendula’ has also been known under the name ‘Dwarf Weeper’.
