Acer palmatum 'Tess' leafs out with an orange-pink color the leaves which radiates outwards to the edge of the leaves as more chlorophyll comes into leaves. According to Dick van der Maat who introduced this selection, the leaves curl downward like a hand, while the habit of the tree is fastigate and narrow.
