Acer palmatum 'Aoba jo' Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum 'Aoba jo'
Beautiful Green Dwarf Japanese Maple
‘Aoba jo’ is a unique dwarf Japanese maple with tight internodes. Yes, the overall shape is very “Mikawa-like”. The leaves are less elongated than ‘Mikawa yatsubusa’, and are more round. The leaves on ‘Aoba jo’ are less uniform, as some leaves are flat while other leaves may cup downward slightly. In the spring, ‘Aoba jo’ leafs out as a bronze, turning to bronze red-tipping by mid-spring on a brighter chartreuse leaf. By late spring the leaves mature to a dark green. In the fall, ‘Aoba jo’ turns to a bright yellow with orange to red highlights. ‘Aoba jo’ may reach 3-4 ft in height and width in 10 years. Give ‘Aoba jo’ protection from the hot afternoon sun for best growth.
