Acer palmatum 'Earthfire' is a small, deciduous shrub with a low, spreading habit. Its leaves are deeply lobed, and new growth appears in an intriguing brownish-red hue. In the fall, the foliage transforms into shades of orange and red. It thrives in sun or partial shade and requires well-drained soil. In 10 years, it reaches a height of 3 ft and a width of 4 ft.
