Acer palmatum 'Mikazuki'
Reticulated Variegated

Crescent Moon Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

‘Mikazuki’ leafs out in the early spring with a bright pink-red leaf accented by deep reddish purple veining that gives a great contrast to the leaf, making this Japanese maple tree extremely appealing.

Each leaf is heavily divided, more so than any of the other reticulated veined types in this category of Japanese maples. This is where this tree gets its name which translates as “crescent moon”. By mid-summer, ‘Mikazuki’ will turn to greenish-cream accented by deep-green veining. Autumn colors of this Japanese maple are bright golden yellows to oranges.

‘Mikazuki’ will reach 10 ft tall by 7 ft wide in 15 years making it a great mid-sized tree for the garden. In the South, protection from the hot afternoon sun will increase the length of its spring display of pink-red on this Japanese maple. This tree is an excellent addition to any garden and every collection.

1 Gallon trees were potted from large liners to gallons in this spring and may not have completely filled out their pots.
