'Ruth's Red' was found as a chance seedling by Greg Gulden in Pennsylvania and named after his mother. 'Ruth's Red' has proven to be an outstanding upright deep maroon Japanese maple. Some consider 'Ruth's Red' to be one of their favorite red uprights as one of the darkest purple Japanese maples. 'Ruth's Red' turns to a fiery red to deep purple in the fall. We expect 'Ruth's Red' to reach 10-12 ft in 15 years.
