Acer palmatum 'Samidare' Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum 'Samidare'
Exceptional Fall Color Japanese Maple
Zones 5-9
'Samidare' is perhaps one of the closest selections to Acer amoenum in the wild in Japan. On my many trips to Japan in the fall, many of the larger leaf Japanese maples, which are primarily Acer amoenum, are a nice shade of green turning to yellow and orange in the fall. 'Samidare' does just that with grace and sophistication. This makes 'Samidare' a great tree for the garden, but also an excellent specimen for traditional Japanese gardening. It is often the green upright Japanese maples that give that nice summery fill in the landscape, that announce the changing of the seasons with phenomenal autumn color, that are used in traditional Japanese landscaping. 'Samidare' may reach 8-10 ft in 10 years making a great mid-size tree for any garden. It's durability and resilience make it an ideal selection for a variety of landscapes - from traditional Japanese gardening to modern gardens. Plus, it's easy to grow and provides outstanding autumn color, making it the perfect way to create a stunning seasonal backdrop.
