‘Sunset’ is a unique laceleaf Japanese maple. In the spring, ‘Sunset’ leafs out with a bronze-green cast, maturing to a light yellow green for most of the spring and a light green for summer. If ‘Sunset’ gets direct light for a few hours each day, there is often a stage of bronze red tips in the early spring as well. Fall color on ‘Sunset’ typically is a nice sunset shade of red with hints of a bleached yellow. The effect is outstanding and makes a nice fall display. ‘Sunset’ may reach 3-4 ft in height by 5-6 ft in width in 10 years. Give ‘Sunset’ protection from the hot afternoon sun for best growth.
