One of the most desired maples of them all, 'Usugumo' is simply unique. It leafs out in the early spring with large batwing-type leaves that are coral pink. These batwing leaves on 'Usugumo' develop into white variegated leaves that remind many maple lovers of the reticulated ghost series. From a distance, the white of this batwing maple can been seen. It provides dynamic contrast in the garden and landscape.

Up close, one sees the white background of the leaf is highlighted by deep rich green veining that flows throughout the leaf. Best coloration is obtained with morning sun and afternoon shade. 'Usugumo' is a slow growing pictum which can do well in containers or in the landscape. It forms an upright tree that can reach 8 ft in 15 years.
