'Baby Dragon’ is a patented dwarf shantung maple that is extremely easy to grow, but difficult to propagate. This makes this selection extremely rare in the nursery trade. ‘Baby Dragon’ pushes coral pink new growth in the spring and summer. The leaves mature to a dark green, turning to yellow in the fall with flashes of red and orange. ‘Baby Dragon’ has very small leaves, making it a great candidate for bonsai. The dense compact habit makes this a great hardy tree for the heat of the deep south, while also doing well in colder climates. ‘Baby Dragon’ is expected to reach 9 ft in height by 8 ft in width in 15 years. ‘Baby Dragon’ was found and introduced by our good friend, Keith Johannson.
