Calycanthus raulstonii 'Hartlage Wine' sweetshrub is an extraordinary garden plant is a hybrid between Calycanthus floridus and the Chinese relative Calycanthus chinensis (formerly Sinocalycanthus chinensis). It was named for Richard Hartlage who made the cross in 1991 at the JC Raulston Arboretum. It has large, abundant burgundy flowers during late spring into summer with a light fragrance. These flowers are extremely beautiful. The foliage is a dark green. 'Hartlage Wine' matures to 6-8 ft.
