Cornus mas 'Violacea'

Edible Ornamental
Cornus mas is one of the most underutilized trees in the landscape and garden. You get both the ornamental appeal and fruit production. Yellow flowers, not like your typical native dogwood, occur in early spring occur just when you think you can't stand winter any longer. The cherry-like fruits mature to deep purple-blue, hence the name 'Violacea'. These fruits are edible and are fairly sweet. I think they taste like candy. Leaves are glossy, dark green through the summer usually turning to a brilliant red in the fall. A nice textured and exfoliating like bark gives year round interest, even through winter. Cornus mas 'Violacea' reaches about 8-10 ft tall and wide in 10 years.
Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of woody ornamentals, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the woody ornamentals you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
