Hydrangea serrata 'O amacha nishiki' is a beautiful gold dust variegated Japanese mountain hydrangea with blooms that may be white with a pink blush to a pink-red lacy bloom. 'O amacha nishiki' may bloom from July - September. Fall color on the foliage of this dwarf hydrangea is a showy shade of red. 'O amacha nishiki' may reach 3 ft in height and width in 10 years.

Be careful about the sun

I've had this hydrangea for one year and just bought a second for the unique foliage to place in a hosta garden. It really doesn't like the heat (I am in 7B Virginia), so be careful about siting it in your garden. I ended up with scorched leaves and daily wilting as I planted it with early afternoon sun. The flowers are truly beautiful, and it is a unique variegated hydrangea for sure. I was surprised how much water it needed here in the hot summer, so I would be thoughtful about a protected location and well draining, rich soil. Maybe morning sun only, or just dappled shade if you live in a hot climate.
