'Wiethorst' is a an excellent small selection of Schwerin's pine that was found as a dwarf mutation, with long green needles with a silver backside. It has such a unique habit and shape that this exceptional dwarf hybrid has been selected as a 2014 Conifer of the Year with the American Conifer Society. The overall effect is fairly blue. The habit of 'Wiethorst' is dense and compact with a pyramidal form. Candling this pine is recommended for the smallest and densest habit. 'Wiethorst' was found by Johann Wieting in Giesselhorst, Germany, as a dwarf witches' broom on a rare hybrid of Pinus strobus and Pinus wallichiana. 'Wiethorst' may reach 6-7 ft in 10 years.
