Rhododendron canescens, also known as the Mountain Azalea, is a beautiful early blooming native azalea. In early spring, pink to pink-white blooms appear in clusters across the plant. The outside throat of the blooms are bright pink-red. The blooms are beautiful and also fragrant. Growing natively on the mountains of the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions, this azalea prefers moist yet well-drained acidic soil. This Mountain Azalea may reach 6 ft in height by 4 ft in width in 10 years. Rhododendron canescens is great for pollinators.
