Rhodoleia henryi 'Scarlet Bells'
Hardy Hong Kong Rose Tree
Zones 7-9
'Scarlet Bells' is one of the hardiest selections of Hong Kong Rose. This is a evergreen flowering tree in the witch hazel family. Many people for years have tried to grow Rhodoleia championii, which isn't very cold tolerant. Rhodoleia henryi is from much higher elevations and can be grown in more gardens around the United States.. 'Scarlet Bells' is a selection of Rhodoleia henryi that is one of the most cold tolerant selections and has a pretty pink-red bloom. Our good friend, Ted Stevens, found this selection in Japan around 2002. He actually thinks that 'Scarlet Bells' might perform well in some Zone 6 climates.
'Scarlet Bells' begins to bloom in January and continues until April with pink rose-like blooms over top of dark green rounded foliage on this evergreen tree. 'Scarlet Bells' may reach up to 15 ft in 10 years. Give 'Scarlet Bells' morning sun with protection from the hot afternoon sun for best blooms, foliage, and growth rate. Super rare & extremely unique.
Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.
