Sciadopitys verticillata 'Green Star'

Rare Dwarf Japanese Umbrella Pine Tree

Zones 5-7

Japanese umbrella pines are unique, rare, and difficult to propagate. 'Green Star’ is a dwarf compact selection that resulted as a chance tetraploid seedling at Kurt Wittboldt-Müller’s Nursery in Germany. ‘Green Star’ has thicker dark green needles that are more numerous per whorl than the typical species. The overall habit is shorter and denser for ‘Green Star’ reaching 3-4 ft in height in 10 years. This is definitely a Japanese umbrella pine you will want in your garden. It was originally named ‘Sternschnuppe’, but ‘Green Star’ has became a more popular name for this in the United States.
