Ulmus parvifolia 'Seiju'

Seiju Small Leaf Chinese  Lacebark Elm

Zones 4-9

Part Sun-Full Sun

Great For Bonsai

'Seiju' was found as a sport on 'Hokkaido' by Carl Young. 'Seiju' has the same tiny foliage(less than half an inch), but longer growth which makes it easy for wiring and training. 'Seiju' also responds very well to pruning, when it can back bud, even on the trunk. 'Seiju' develops a nice corky bark with age. 'Seiju' may reach 6 - 8 ft in height in 10 years if grown in the ground, but stays much smaller in a container or bonsai pot.
