Cornus sanguinea

'Compressa'

Compact, Dwarf Dogwood

Zones 4-8

Partial to Full Sun

Cornus sanguinea 'Compressa', commonly known as the compact or slender dogwood, is a cultivar of the common dogwood (Cornus sanguinea). It is distinguished by its compact, upright growth habit, featuring slender, elongated stems and branches that form a dense, bushy silhouette. The foliage is a deep green, transitioning to vibrant autumnal shades of red, orange, or purple in the fall. In winter, the plant’s stems provide additional visual appeal with their striking reddish or purplish tones. In late spring to early summer, 'Compressa' produces small, white to creamy flowers, which are followed by dark blue to black berries. While the flowers are modest in appearance, they attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. This cultivar typically reaches a height and spread of 5-6 ft, making it well-suited for smaller gardens or as a focal point in mixed borders.
