Ficus carica ‘Desert King’ is a fig variety known for producing a large, early crop in mid-summer, with the potential for a second harvest in September in warmer conditions. Its yellowish-green fruits have a sweet, strawberry-colored interior and are notably large—about the size of an extra-large egg. Despite its name, ‘Desert King’ performs especially well in cooler climates, including coastal and higher elevation regions. The plant’s large leaves create a lush, tropical appearance and can become a bold focal point if left unpruned. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil but can tolerate less-than-ideal conditions, while also being pollinator friendly and relatively resistant to wildlife. Over a 10 years, ‘Desert King’ can reach approximately 10–15 ft tall and 8–12 ft wide, depending on growing conditions and pruning.
