Acer palmatum 'Verkade's Jacus Potus'

Zones: 5-9

Acer palmatum 'Verkade's Jacus Potus' is an exciting new introduction that captivates with its dynamic foliage. In the spring, it unveils deep burgundy, feather-like leaves that gradually fade to a lush green, accented with hints of peach and apricot. A secondary flush of growth in mid-season brings shades of pink-red to salmon, creating a striking contrast with the older leaves. As autumn approaches, 'Verkade's Jacus Potus' transforms into a vibrant crimson, offering a spectacular seasonal display.

Discovered by Dave Verkade as a chance seedling, this cultivar is named after a cherished nickname for his daughter. We were thrilled to receive this tree directly from Dave and were immediately enamored by its unique beauty. Few selections boast this delicate, feather-like leaf structure, reminiscent of an upright laceleaf, giving the tree an elegant and graceful appearance suitable for a dwarf to mid-sized garden setting.

Given its recent introduction, the mature height of 'Verkade's Jacus Potus' remains somewhat uncertain. However, we estimate it may reach around 8-10 feet in 15 years, with the potential to remain smaller. This exceptional tree is sure to bring both beauty and rarity to your landscape, making it a prized addition to any exceptional garden.
